Watch this beautifully produced recap of the 2nd Annual Shoebox Lunch Festival, where attendees honored the resourcefulness and resilience of Black families who traveled with prepared meals during the Jim Crow era, when dining was unsafe for them.
The day opened with a powerful traditional African dance by the Tidewater African Cultural Alliance, followed by a live blacksmithing demonstration at the historic Samuel D. Outlaw Blacksmith Shop, and ended with a traditional African American meal of fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, collard greens, cornbread, and pound cake.
Bringing together the Eastern Shore community is our way of preserving history and ensuring its lessons carry forward to the next generation.
